Lady Gaga
« on: November 27, 2009, 03:17:30 PM »
I've had her album The Fame for a while and really loved it.
But it wasn't until the other day when my friend and I were "arguing" about what was art and what wasn't (advise: don't go there. ever.)
He said Lady Gaga wasn't cause she didn't write her own songs and was a typical pop-culture-type. (Wrong btw, she does write her own songs)

So I started looking at her closer and now I can't get enough!
She's so awesome!
She's not only odd and fun in the way she dresses, she's also quirky and weird in interviews but in the shy-kind-of-way.
She's different and she's not afraid to go "there".

I absoloutly loooooove her, her music, her videos, her fashion ... she's great!

What do you think?

Here's her newest video btw:

Well...I am not much for her type of music.  It's just not what I get into.

For me, it's like she just popped up out of nowhere and it's strange.  She was just *poof* there.

As far the dress, quirkiness, etc....I'll be honest.  I feel like it's just a vehicle for her to get as much attention as possible.  But you have to remember, I grew up in the heyday of Bowie, T-Rex, Queen...real glam, the birth of glam.  So for me, it seems as though she's just out there trying to outdo what's already been done before her.  Which, in my opinion, just isn't going to happen.

But that's just my take on her.

See, I think the problem is that people always compare stuff to older stuff. Lady Gaga isn't comparable to Bowie and Queen. Glam and other music genres aren't just one thing, it's just a word used over a variety of different music that is maybe a teensy bit alike. Besides, she calls her music pop ;)

Her 'thing' is fame. She's now made two albums, one called The Fame and the other The Fame Monster. I think her attention seeking is just a new way, no one has really done it so much this way. Besides, what's wrong with attention seeking?

:)

Well, glam was more of a movement, like punk was.  It was new, and drastically different.  It was more than just a teensy bit alike.  No, she isn't comparable, that was my point, but to me she comes off as though she wants to be.  But again that's my opinion.  But I think part of her act is to be outlandish like they were.  They were groundbreaking.  Attention seeking to a degree is fine, as long as it's not used as a mask to draw attention away from what should really be noticed.  This is just what I think about her - that was the question - but I'm also seeing the whole topic from a different point of view.

I really like her. Her music is good and her outfits... well I'd never wear them, but they're fun to see :P my mum says she's like Madonna when she started out - different outfits and catchy music. I'm going to see her live in March :D
