I'm confused, I thought Marie / Gary Sue was when the character was perfect, good in everything, good looking, popular etc. which Bella is not.

Also, although I agree with you, I think I heard an interview with Stephanie where she was saying she loved to write about Bella because they were such opposite characters, and that she took almost nothing from her own experience.

And if anyone is comparing it to JK... :roflol:
According to Wikipedia I guess we're both right, lol. The self-insertion part. But the article starts off with just about what you were describing.  :-[

There was also a comparison of Bella's description and a picture of Stephenie Meyer but I can't find it.

Not to mention... it's corrupting our youth!!11!11!!!1!1!shiftone!!111!!!!

Interesting, I never knew that! ;D

Well, maybe look-wise, but I think she meant character-wise.

hahaha

Bella is perfect, though. Being clumsy is not that big of a flaw. She comes into town and everyone instantly falls in love with her. Oh, please.  ::)

And I don't see the appeal of Edward either, lol... he's creepy, stalkerish, violent and obsessive.

The rest of the series? I've not heard good things about it. I won't spoil it for anyone, but it deals with major issues that made teens apparently now more accepting about O_O not really things to write about for preteens either....

She's clumsy and has a big mood but the everyone-falling-in-love-with-her is really weird.
I thought that maybe she has really low self-esteem and therefor thinks she's not as beautiful as she clearly is.

Can you tell me (in pm if you want) what that issues are? I'm very curious and I don't think the copies will be available at my library any time soon

I heard that awhile ago, and that it was holding up shooting the next film - but I haven't really read much about it since.

Ahh <3 Twilight.  Own them all.  Read them all.  Have the shirts.  My boyfriend got me a limited edition wearable replicas (like alice's choker..etc) in a set with an autograph from the guy who plays Carlisle!!  :D super awesome.

The movie could have been a lot better but that's usually how it is.

Just to annoy Nina I have to see I'm not keen on Twilight -  the 1st was okay (though I hate both Bella, Edward and Jacob with a passion) and the other 3 books were just daft. Sorry  :-\ I only read them for Carlisle and Alice - they were good characters

:whip: lol nah I think books are alright, they are not the best, and I would not compare them to Harry Potter as obviously Harry is sooo much better... But Twilight has some interesting appeal to it - probably because of that "Romeo and Juliet " kind of "I would die for you" love between Edward and Bella, although they can be quite annoying and my favorite is still Jacob and Edward as well, but he can be a bit too selfish, he is only great to Bella... well overall they are OK.  ;D

I started to read it because Rupert did.  How lame is that :O  But...  I am glad that I did.  It was right up my alley.  :)

I've just started new moon and I think that with the right author, the story could've been told so much better.

This is what scares me.

It's really...in my own personal opinion...sad.  But then, I'm ranting about the fandom.

I had this whole thing written about how I feel about the books, the films, the mass marketing of everything from candybars to underwear...but I have decided to just leave it at I think it's awful, but that's just my opinion.

I liked the books, they're easy to get sucked into.
I read them last year in a couple of days, but I bet that if I'd read them again now, I'd probably notice a lot more things that would annoy me.

For those who want to read the first part of Twilight from Edward's point of view, here's a link to 'Midnight Sun', which Stephenie Meyer published on her site.
I personally like it better than Twilight. ^^

The movie didn't impress me much though. Except for Jackson Rathbone maybe.
